Marriage counseling

Marriage counseling with Dr. David McFadden

I like and I believe in people. I find people incredible and fascinating in their ability to cope with, live through, learn from and change as a result of what life throws at them.

There is always a way

I always, always believe there is a way to move forward. There are times when the way is hard to find, when our brains shut down to the possibility of a way through the mess and uncertainty in front of us. My job is to help you believe there is a way, and then to find the way that works best for you. (Even if that means you borrow my faith in you for a little while.)

I bring a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and one in Pastoral Counseling, a Doctorate in Pastoral Counseling, a wealth of experience in life and in my work as a therapist, and a personality built for working with people. Helping people is my life’s calling.

I’ve always taken on personal challenges: I have ridden my bicycle to the top of the highest paved road in the world four times, 60 miles of pedaling uphill. I’m not afraid of something difficult, and I’ll jump in with you to take on the challenge, trial, tragedy, major decision or struggle you are facing. I will stick with you until we get it figured out and you are reaching your goals.

I can help with

  • Being the victim of an affair
  • Getting disentangled from an affair
  • Restoring a broken marriage
  • Learning how to take care of your spouse
  • Improving your relationships
  • Breaking out of boredom in your life and your marriage
  • Navigating major life transitions
  • Deciding on a future course for your life
  • Getting past the hurdles that keep you from your goals
  • Surviving, managing and moving through grief

How it works

A practical, directive approach

I will not just sit, nod and ask you once in a while how you feel. I take the lead, give you clear steps, and stay with you while you take them.

  1. A free call

A 15–20 minute phone or video call. I tell you how my process works, and you come away with what you need to decide.

  2. Your story

I take the time to get to know you and understand your story, and what you really want and need.

  3. A plan and practical steps

I take the lead: clear options, specific steps and, often, homework between sessions.

  4. I stay with you

You take the steps; I stay alongside, debrief what you tried and fine-tune it with you.

  5. Celebrate the change

I help you notice and celebrate your successes and the change you came for.
